Thieme’s Tech Centre Offers Digital Printing System that Prints with Water-Based Inks
03 July 2022: THIEME GmbH’s Technology Centre in Germany offers a digital printing system that prints with water-based inks. This process is very well suited for thermal forming and offers completely new possibilities. Digital Printing with Water-Based ink saves set-up costs and offers completely new possibilities for small series in Film Insert Moulding (FIM).
Films that are thermoformed or back-injected after printing, e.g. for film insert moulding (FIM), are often screen-printed. This means that a considerable amount of set-up work is required for smaller quantities. In addition, the reproduction of colour gradients or fine fonts is only possible to a limited extent.
In the digital printing process, the water-based ink is fixed drop by drop with a special liquid previously applied with pinpoint accuracy in the inkjet process. Despite the fine resolution, a high printing speed is possible. The ink is process-stable and adheres very well.
If functional properties are required, additional barrier and conductive layers can be applied by screen printing. The uniform Thieme machine technology offers the best conditions for precise alignment.
