Screen Printing Industry Reports of APAC Countries Presented at ASGA Board Meeting

03 December 2024: The ASGA Board Meeting recently held at Guangzhou on November 11, 2024, the opening day of DS Printech 2024 Exhibition was conducted in hybrid mode with online and offline formats to facilitate attendance by member countries who could not attend in person. Asia-Pacific Screen Printing Industry Reports were presented during the meeting held at Mingyue Hotel, Guangzhou Convention & Exhibition Center.

Attendees included Jennifer Shen, Chairperson, CSGIA; Nigel Davies from SGIAA, Shin Jang Ho, Cho Dae Hyun, Kim Min Ji, Vivian from SPAK; Mongkol, Peerawat from TINPA whereas JSPDA was represented in person by Nishida Yuichi, Tomotaka, Jiang while Teraoka, Emori, Naito, Suzuki, attended online.

The meeting commenced with the welcome speech by Jennifer Shen, followed by reading of the last meeting minutes by TINPA and financial report by JSDPA. Meeting then witnessed reports on industry Information by each ASGA member as follows:

China

  • CSGIA introduced an industry standard for electronic devices using printed flexible transparent film. It is an innovative technology which has various applications on home appliance.
    Japan
  • Machine order is down due to China economic down
  • Due to high ageing society, less manpower now
  • The ongoing significant depreciation of the yen has led to apparent improvements in the performance of export industries. However, this reflects a weakening of national power, and a correction of the exchange rate is anticipated.
  • International Committee is also scheduled for a change in committee members next year. As part of its activities, JSDPA participated in FESPA AGM in September ‘24. Domestically, JSDPA has been actively participating in exhibitions and organizing events to promote screen and digital printing, enhancing market awareness of the industry.

Thailand

  • Investments from China increase such as PCB, Electric cars.
  • Lot of China EV Start produce next year, expect expand in production.
  • Economic is slow due to high consumer house hold debt ratio is over 90%.
  • TINPA is trying to invite new generation (young generation) to join.

South Korea

  • Kprint Exhibition support by SPAK, SPAK operated one booth to promote screen printing techniques and enhance the awareness.
  • SPAK participated in the 15th Seoul printing award and cultural festival, showcasing excellent screen printing works.
  • Printers in Korea, official members are around 160, non-official members are 2-3,000 companies.
  • SPAK will try to invite the young gen to join by using Kprint activities.

Australia

  • Now the economic situation is quite harder, due to people having less money to buy things. A lot of work had been going outside to be done by foreign countries again.
  • Old generation people are getting out of the business, then the company is acquired by other young generation but it is not quite successful as they are not interested in this industry.
  • Industry is moving from screen to wide format digital print. Small companies give jobs to big companies which utilised a lot of automation process.
  • To work with a big company like Apple, they have to show how to move to sustainability and reduce carbon credit. This movement has start in Australia.
  • They have a “Leader of young printer program” to bring young people to the association.
