Srimeenakshi, Young and Dynamic Entrepreneur, Shares Perspectives about her Progress in the Journey as Distributor of Textile Dyes & Chemicals, which is Traditionally Perceived as a Male-Dominated Segment. While usually women are known to help their spouse or father in the business arena, in this case she is managing the entire business and has a bright vision for the future; so, kudos to her for navigating this pathway to progress !

In this Q&A, SPI seeks to understand her thoughts and future vision.

Q: When did you start Sri Ganesh Colour Chem ? Is this your first foray in the business arena ?
A: I started Sri Ganesh Colour Chem on November 1, 2023. This venture signifies my inaugural step into entrepreneurship. Prior to this, I navigated a career in academia, first as a computer science faculty and later as a software engineer in a software company. Following my marriage in Tiruppur and the arrival of two children, I encountered challenges in sustaining my role in the software company, leading me to resign and delve into the realm of stock market investments. I meticulously analysed numerous companies, cultivating a comprehensive understanding of various businesses. This endeavour ignited within me a profound aspiration to commence my own enterprise, compelling me to embark on this entrepreneurial journey.

Q: What is your educational qualification and why did you decide to foray into this business ?
A: I am a science graduate and have done Masters in Computer Applications (B.Sc., MCA). Since I live in Tiruppur, where there are many textile factories, I thought it would be a good idea to sell products related to textiles. After attending various expos, I realized that the textile printing inks, dyes & chemicals sector has significant potential for growth and innovation.

Q: Why did you decide to enter a mostly maledominated business ?
A: According to me, the effectiveness of any kind of business isn’t inherently tied to gender. Both men and women can develop any successful business based on their experience, knowledge, skills, and creativity. Success in business often depends on factors such as market understanding, innovation, adaptability, leadership and execution, rather than gender. Any individual, regardless of gender, can excel in developing and implementing effective business strategies. I do accept there are many limitations for women to develop customer relationships and learning the technical expertise as predominantly only men are into textile inks, dyes & chemicals. However, I believe in the quote “You must do the things you think you cannot do.”

Q: How would you describe your journey in this trade ?
A: We began with just one customer on day one. Through our efforts from myself and our General Manager, K. V. Jeeva, we worked tirelessly to meet customer needs and deliver timely services at competitive prices. As a result, within six months, we’ve successfully acquired over 50 happy customers. Remarkably, half of these customers were referred to us by satisfied clients. We view these referrals as valuable feedback from our customers, motivating us to continue expanding and improving our services.

Q: What is your company’s USP compared to other distributors ?
A: As distributors, our approach goes beyond simply selling what we have in stock. We place a strong emphasis on thoroughly analysing and understanding the specific needs of our customers. Our goal is to provide comprehensive solutions to our customers, even if it means extending our search beyond our immediate resources. Ultimately, we aim to deliver value by offering the right products at competitive prices, tailored to the individual needs of each customer. We endeavour to promote healthy competition rather than resorting to deception to attract customers. Our commitment lies in being straightforward and loyal to both our customers and suppliers. We choose to collaborate with individuals who share our values and vision. In closing, I echo the sentiment that “Success isn’t about how much money you make; it’s about the difference you make in people’s lives.”

Q: Which are the different methods that you have adopted to promote your products among clients ?
A: We offer quantity discounts and cash incentives to our customers. Additionally, we go the extra mile by providing technical assistance through skilled technicians. Moreover, we ensure convenience by delivering goods directly to our customers’ doorsteps.

Q: What is the future scope of expansion that you are looking at ?
A: Currently, we are encountering challenges in sourcing goods, primarily because many of the products are manufactured in and around Maharashtra. To address this issue, we are actively seeking to bridge the gap by expanding our business operations and establishing stronger connections with manufacturers. Our goal is to enhance our supply chain capabilities, reduce delivery
times and ensure seamless access to products for our customers in Tiruppur and beyond.
