One more feather in NID’s cap – German Central Office for Foreign Education adds NID in Anabin Database
17 July 2020: National Institutes of Design (NID) students will be able to easily apply for work permits in Germany, as all NIDs have been included in the Anabin Database, maintained by German Central Office for Foreign Education (ZAB). ZAB acts as the sole authority for the evaluation of foreign qualifications in Germany. As part of their service, their Anabin Database lists foreign degrees and higher education qualifications concerning German diplomas and degrees.
Recognition of foreign university-level qualifications in Germany is often an essential prerequisite for securing a German Work Visa, Job Seekers Visa or German Blue Card. Often the success of visa application is dependent on the proof that the university-level qualification acquired outside Germany is considered on par with equivalent German qualification. Generally, a 3/4-year bachelor’s degree is required to meet the basic requirements for one’s degree to be recognised in Germany.
National Institutes of Design (NID) was established by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry. Now there are five NIDs, imparting world-class design education. While NID Ahmedabad (with campuses in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar & Bengaluru) commenced its activities in 1961, four new NIDs namely, NID Andhra Pradesh, NID Haryana, NID Assam, and NID Madhya Pradesh came up in the last few years. These NIDs are declared as Institutions of National Importance by the Act of Parliament and are internationally acclaimed premier design institutes.
NID offers Master Of Design (M.Des.) and Bachelor Of Design (B.Des.) courses. The courses broadly cover Communication Design, Ceramic & Glass Design, Industrial Design, Exhibition Design, Graphic Design, Product Design, Textile Design, etc. NID’s education is a combination of both design theory and practice, knowledge and skill. B.Des is a 4-year programme is offered in 8 disciplines at the Ahmedabad campus; while M.Des is a 2.5 year programme is offered in 19 disciplines across all 3 campuses.
NID-Ahmedabad’s Graphic Design section has a full-fledged printing unit housing offset and screen printing machinery, pre-press and post-press equipment where practically printing techniques are being taught and often NID’s all printing jobs are undertaken by the students as a part of their practice. Many of the printing entrepreneurs are associated with NID as a part of their industry-academy initiative.
