Indian Govt to organise a global textiles fair in February 2024 at New Delhi: Piyush Goyal
06 September 2023: Centre government will be organising a global textiles fair in February 2024 at Bharat Mandapam, International Exhibition cum Convention Centre (IECC) Complex at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi, Piyush Goyal, Union Textiles Minister said, at AsiaTex 2023 (B2B Textile Trade Fair) organised by Hindustan Chamber of Commerce recently.
Piyush Goyal said that newly developed IECC complex has spread over 123 acres. Indian Government will invite the entire global textile – clothing players to participate in the fair atBharat Madapam. Indian companies are also going to participate in the global event. He further informed that apart from IECC, a new Exhibition cum convention centre is coming up in Dwarka near New Delhi which will be spread over 50 areas. A new Convention centre is already started in Greater Noida. There is also an international standard exhibition cum Convention centre already set up at BKC, Mumbai, known as JIO World Convention Centre.
While speaking on Free Trade Agreement (FTA), he said that our country has already tied up with UAE and Australia. We are also in the process to finalise FTAs with UK. Moreover, talks are in the advance stage with other four countries including Switzerland, Norway and Iceland.
Regarding Technical Textiles Mission (TTM), he also said that the government has made provision of Rs.1,400 crore for this mission to promote Man Made Fibre textiles, Geo textiles and technical textiles. He insisted that textiles traders should expand their businesses into Technical Textiles sector.
At present, exports of textiles and clothing has reached to US$ $40-45 billion and it has potential to grow around US$100 billion in the next few years.
