Canon to roll out World’s longest digitally printed photo in support of child welfare
25 September 2020: On September 26, Canon will print the longest digital photo in the world on the Oberstdorf ski jump. Canon will take the longest digitally printed photo in the world on the 108-meter-long Schattenbergschanze. With this world record attempt, Canon will support “Look! eV “, an association for child and victim aid. The campaign takes place as part of the 8th Oberstdorf Photo Summit. Numerous offers and exhibitions around photography will be offered from September 23 to 27. The possible world record could be added to the history of Germany’s southernmost municipality, which can then lead to an entry in the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS book.
Oberstdorf is well known for records and top performances, but so far it has played a major role in ski jumping: the opening competition of the world-famous Four Hills Tournament has been taking place here since 1953. The focus is not on the best ski jumpers from all over the world, but on the Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-6100 large format photo printer. The printer is placed at the highest point of the ski jump so that the final photo print can slide down the hill piece by piece in front of the audience, printed on special paper from the manufacturer Ilford. As soon as the 108 meters are reached, the world record will be attested by an official GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS record judge on site. The print will be a collage of photos of Oberstdorf citizens and personalities and panoramic shots from the region.
At the center of the world record attempt is Canon “Schaut hin! EV”, an association dedicated to helping children and victims. Canon donates a basic amount for every successful meter of the world record pressure. Additional funds bring donations from visitors who take advantage of Canon’s offers for photo workshops, camera rentals, printing of their own photos and cleaning of camera sensors.
