Canon and HEIDELBERG Announce Global Co-operation in Sheetfed Inkjet Printing
31 May 2024: Canon, alongside Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (HEIDELBERG), both leaders in their respective fields of inkjet and sheetfed offset printing, today announced a global sales and service partnership in inkjet printing, with a major aim to support commercial print businesses transitioning to hybrid offset/digital production to meet the dynamic market needs for varied, short-run print jobs.
HEIDELBERG to expand its technology portfolio by launching an inkjet product family derived from Canon’s newly announced B2 sheetfed inkjet press and the established B3 model. Both presses will be seamlessly integrated into HEIDELBERG’s Prinect workflow, with Service and Saphira Ink delivered through HEIDELBERG.
Akira Yoshida, President, CEO and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of Canon Production Printing Holding B.V., commented on the substantial efforts and investments Canon has made in advancing inkjet technology. He expressed confidence that the synergy with HEIDELBERG’s rich legacy, extensive customer base, and in-depth knowledge of commercial printing necessities will accelerate the shift towards combined offset/digital production, enabling transformative advancements across the industry.
Dr. David Schmedding, Head of Sales at Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG, shared his enthusiasm about the partnership with Canon. He emphasized the goal to equip print shops operating both sheetfed offset and digital presses with an attractive, integrated service and product portfolio. Currently, The adoption of Canon’s B3 sheetfed inkjet presses has already surpassed 650 units worldwide, granting users increased flexibility and agility to produce a broad spectrum of short-run work efficiently and profitably. Building on this track record, the forthcoming Canon B2 sheetfed press promises ideal levels of digital productivity, quality and media versatility for industrial customers.
HEIDELBERG inkjet portfolio is being showcased at HEIDELBERG stand in Hall 1 at drupa 2024 in Düsseldorf, Germany (from the 28th of May to the 7th of June). Visitors can see a technology animation of the new B2 sheetfed inkjet press at Canon’s exhibit in Hall 8a, with the press expected to be available in Q4 2025.
