Akil Contractor Recites Poetry at Wordscapes, India Art Festival at Mumbai
23 January 2023: India Art Festival presented Wordscapes – a multilingual poetry recitation in association with Poetrywala on January 22, 2023 from 4.30 pm to 6.30 pm at Harmony Hall, Nehru Centre, Worli, Mumbai. Akil Contractor recited his poetry in Urdu and there were also other leading poets who presented their writings in various other Indian languages. This was held on the sidelines of India Art Festival 2023, held from January 19-22, 2023 at Nehru Centre, Worli, Mumbai.
A multi-talented individual, Akil Contractor started writing English poetry in 1985 and in 1986 published two volumes of poetry titled ‘Spirit song’ (verses), followed by ‘After Kalinga and other poems’ which were published in a few magazines. He founded the Poetry Circle, Mumbai in 1986 with Menka Shivdasani and Nitin Mukkadam to encourage English poets to gather and share their work.
In July 2019, he started self-learning Urdu and writing Urdu poems in ‘sher-shayari’ tradition. At Print Dynamic, he satisfies the creative needs of clients with new inks. Poetry, on the other hand, helps him come to terms with life, expressing himself at an emotional level.
