Tropic Knits India installs solar power plant at Coimbatore factory
26 June 2024: Sandeep Raut, Chief Executive Officer at Tropic Knits India, recently posted on LinkedIn about having installed a cutting-edge solar power plant at their Coimbatore factory. “This exciting eco-friendly initiative significantly reduces the factory’s carbon footprint and energy costs, showcasing the company’s strong commitment to sustainability and innovative green energy solutions in its manufacturing operations,” he emphasised.
Tropic is part of CIEL Textile, a world reference in the apparel and clothing sector. In a LinkedIn post, the company shared, “At our Coimbatore facility in India, we’ve set up 571 high-efficiency solar panels, totalling a capacity of 314KW. These panels prioritize space efficiency and yield 20% more power, even during overcast days. With 77% of our energy now sourced from solar and biomass, we’re making a substantial move toward decreasing our reliance on non-renewable energy and cutting down greenhouse gas emissions. Here’s to forging a sustainable path forward!”
More than a supplier, CIEL Textile positions itself as a true partner in the world of fashion. With the mission to improve fashion, every day, the group offers a wide variety products, services, and innovative solutions to its clients around the world. Each year, 43.5M garments are created with passion by CIEL Textile’s 23,000 talents across its 19 production units in Mauritius, Madagascar, India, and Bangladesh.
Act for our Environment, CIEL Textile’s annual commitment to the environment, brings all its business units together for a collective effort toward environmental sustainability. This year, the United Nation’s World Environment Day focused on land restoration, desertification, and drought resilience. CIEL’s colleagues across Mauritius, Madagascar, India, and Bangladesh truly embraced this cause. From reforestation and coastal area restoration to waste upcycling and awareness campaigns, the impact was massive. CIEL estimates their initiatives benefitted over 15,000 people and the planet.
Employees across CIEL Textile got busy planting! Aquarelle India planted trees in hospitals, schools, forests, and their facilities. The Samudra team went a step further, distributing saplings to Indian farmers and promoting vermiculture. Several business units also organized awareness campaigns and well-being initiatives with their neighbours.
Tropic India channelled their positive spirit, cleaning up a local dam and spreading eco-awareness among teams. Floreal Bangladesh also joined the green wave by planting trees to support local ecosystems.
Aquarelle Samudra’s “Wealth Out of Waste” initiative gave fabric scraps a second life, while Tropic teams in India and Madagascar joined the party, collecting leftover materials and donating upcycled t-shirts and bags. Several other business units also organized clean-ups and campaigns to engage and educate communities and raise awareness about waste sorting.
These efforts weren’t solo acts. CIEL Textile partnered with 31 external partners including NGOs, government schools, pollution control boards, and local communities. It was a true team effort, proving that positive environmental change is stronger when we work together. CIEL’s investment of $8,000+ in these initiatives sparked a wave of support, raising an additional $3,500+ for their future green projects.
