Government’s nod for resumption of B2B Exhibitions in India – Indian Exhibition industry’s intense campaign pays off
02 October 2020: Exhibitions are economic multipliers for economies world over and the restart of exhibition will result in kickstart of Indian economy, according to an official communiqué of Indian Exhibition Industry Association (IEIA). So, an intense, constant and a prolonged campaign to restart B2B exhibitions India by the entire Indian Exhibitions industry, finally paid off. The Government has made an announcement, granting permission to re-open B2B exhibitions.
As part of Unlock 5.0 Guidelines, the Ministry of Home Affairs has granted permission for organising B2B exhibitions from 15 October 2020. The Home Ministry has requested Ministry of Commerce to suggest SOPs for organising safe and secure trade shows.
“The restart of B2B Exhibitions from October 15, 2020 is welcome news for the exhibitions industry in India. The Indian SMEs and corporates look forward to trade shows which will catalyse both commerce and investments in India and strengthen Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan,” said S. Balasubramanian, President, IEIA.
“Safety and security have always been integral parts of the set-up of exhibitions in all times. The Indian exhibitions industry under IEIA stands committed to deliver quality exhibitions and awaits the recommended Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) by Department of Commerce, Government of India,” he added.
The announcement defines the success of the continuous efforts, initiatives and advocacy engagements with Government by the IEIA team and industry members during the entire lockdown period. The period from October to March is generally known as the peak season of Exhibitions and the restart announcement during this period shall pave the way for organising exhibitions during this season. Many industry players had been anxiously awaiting Government guidelines and will soon announce their exhibition schedules.
IEIA has been on the forefront of undertaking numerous initiatives to support the members and the industry since the beginning of the lockdown in India. IEIA had been engaging with the Government at various levels for the restart of exhibitions.
IEIA organised a joint interaction with various leading Trade Bodies to discuss the Way forward for the Exhibition Sector in India, with participation of Senior representatives CII, FICCI, PHDCCI, AIEMA, IPAMA, IMTMA, EPCH, EEPC, PLASTINDIA FOUNDATION, PMMAI, CEPC IEEMA, AIPMA (Plastivision). The Interaction resulted in highly positive synergies for taking ahead joint efforts for earliest re-opening of exhibitions sector in India.
