Angarika Digi rolls out 20,000 digital printed masks/day, focus on export

13 August 2020: Within one month of COVID-19 induced lockdown, instead of thinking stressfully, Paresh Parekh, Director of Angarika Digi Tex Pvt. Ltd., Surat, rather decided to get into innovative mask-making business with imprints of attractive designs. Looking at the present needs of the country, the company has launched eco-friendly fashion masks. These masks are made out of digitally printed cotton fabric with 3 layers of protection having Bacterial Filtration Efficiency (BFE) of 95 % which is tested with Government approved laboratory in accordance to ASTM F2101 with 95% Bacterial Filtration Efficiency.

The company is also introducing a new concept. “We are supplying about 20-25 types of fabrics (except nylon) duly coated with anti-bacterial chemicals. This is the first of its kind project related to COVID-19. The fabric will be dyed and digitally printed for use by garment units who have to just cut and stitch and make women’s wear. They can provide designs or we can also offer them attractive designs. Besides digital printing, we can also offer screen printing, foiling and value addition,” says Paresh Parekh.

To manufacture the best quality of fabric mask, Angaika has partnered with HealthGuard AMIC Australia, a pioneer in health-protective chemicals worldwide, to create a fabric that will protect from the virus. HealthGuard AMIC is a global leader of over 25 years in tailored non-invasive healthcare. “We have obtained all the necessary certifications for mask production. The ‘Cosmetic based chemistry’ coating utilised in making the fabric, is made of positive compounds and when it comes in contact with the negative compounds, it disintegrates the outer lipid coating and destroys the virus in a few seconds. This technology is tested in the laboratories of Australia and India.”

Earlier known as Rudraa Digital Solution, Angarika Digi Tex Pvt. Ltd. has been into digital textile printing since 2011. It is engaged in direct to textile printing having four textile digital printers from Europe with a capacity to roll out about 25,000 sq. mtr. of fabric for the domestic and export market. They also have table printing (screen), value addition, foil printing and embroidery set up. “Ours is one of the rare organization, having complete garment/textile decoration facilities under one roof,” says Paresh Parekh. The production unit is spread over 5,000 sq. mtr, employing about 150 personnel. “We make 15,000-20,000 masks per day duly printed. We have a stitching unit with 100 sewing machines and about 500 sewing machines are engaged outside on job work basis.”

Angarika masks are made out 100% cotton-based fabric and have 3 layers. The top and inner layer are made of cotton fabric with anti-bacterial and anti-virus finish. It has soft, the non-allergic inner layer of knitted fabric which offers less breathing resistance. The middle layer is of melt-blown fabric having bacterial filtration efficiency equal to 95%. The company’s masks are sold all over India and abroad, with an export/domestic market ratio of 60:40. “Angarika is our mask brand. However, we also supply mask fabrics duly printed with latest designs to mask manufacturers and they have to just stitch to make the masks,” says Parekh.
