5th Traceability and Authentication Forum 2023 to be held at Hyatt Regency, New Delhi on 6-7 July 2023
27 March 2023: Counterfeiting is a global challenge and impacts the sustainable growth of the major industry in India and the world. Recent rise of counterfeiting trends in India is concerning as the illicit market stood at Rs.2.6 trillion in FY 2019-20. As counterfeiting activities take place around the clock, an aware consumer holds the power to fight this menace. We need to make a significant change in increasing awareness, implementing authentication and traceability technologies, solutions and systems facilitating identification and securing the supply chain against criminals. All stakeholder’s government departments, industry bodies, and institutions need to develop more avenues to make India’s fight against counterfeiting more powerful.
One in four Indian consumers has been a victim of fake products. According to the recent ASPA & CRISIL report “State of Counterfeiting in India 2022”, counterfeit constitutes almost 25-30% of the products and is most prevalent in various key sectors including Agriproducts, Apparel, Automotives, Consumer Electronics, FMCG, Pharmaceuticals, and others. The alarming concern is that as much as 27% of consumers are unaware that products are counterfeits at the time of purchase, making it more important to spread awareness about the issue and identification methods in fighting fakes.
The Authentication Forum is the flagship event of ASPA initiated in 2017. This event enables Policymakers, Brands, ASPA members and all stakeholders to gain first-hand collaborative knowledge of anti-counterfeiting and traceability technologies, solutions and systems.
